The Last Of Us: Episode 4 Adds To The Intense Tension As Henry And Sam Draw Closer
After the devastating third episode of The Last of Us, HBO's television adaptation about Naughty Dog's hit game, it seems that producers decided to save viewers' emotions. After a long and emotionally charged episode, it was natural that the next chapter was warmer and focused on moving on the story. If the story of Bill (Nick Offer man) and Frank (Murray Bartlett) opened the horizon for new interpersonal perspectives in one of our favorite apocalyptic scenarios, this last Sunday (05) we were presented to much more familiar events-even with changes-to Who has played the first title of the franchise. ATTENTION: This article may contain spoilers of the game and the series. Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Joel (Pedro Pascal) finally seem to be starting their adventure to two as we know in the game.
Early in the episode, the protagonists are preparing to start the route will take them to Wyoming. References to the game start when Joel puts the Hank Williams tape to play; The song I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive takes us back to the first title of Thou. After Bill's final letter made Joel decide to follow his way with Ellie, this is the first time we see the beginning of the parental connection blossom without fear of both. Increasingly comfortable with Ellie's sarcastic personality, Bella Ramsey does a great job inging to the big screen one of the points that made the character initially so dear: her sense of humor. The famous scene of Bill's stolen pages is there to remind us how much the teenager takes Joel's foot. Between roads and stops for rest, the time they spend together naturally transform distrust into security. Guaranteeing Ellie that no one will find them as they are standing, Joel takes on the security post of small camp who assemble and transmits comfort to the teenager, even in constant danger-to-what, we have to give proper credits to the great and Subtle interpretation of Pedro Pascal, who grows alongside the character.
Weapons for Ellie
As in the game, the episode also ings more action by showing Ellie and Joel needing to save her own skin to follow the way. At some point in the trajectory, the characters end up in a dead end and see each other in an ambush organized by other humans. Just like in the game, Joel tries to dodge and ends up crashing the car in an establishment. Given the short time of episode, the series ends up leaving scenes that would make the fight against this sequence very long it that is understandable, as we do not need to see Joel repeatedly fighting for his life in the same area. Here, Ellie also takes a gun for the first time to save her road mate, instead of killing her rival, but she just shoots her buttocks and hides so that Joel can decide what to do with the fugitive. We noticed in the series a more protected Ellie from negative views than in the game. Until then, Joel maintains as a priority from preventing the teenager from witnessing moments of violence. Even though he has revealed that he knows a little weapon due to coexistence with Marlene, Joel is restricted to explaining what is necessary for Ellie to be able to turn around.
The hunters
In the final part of the episode, we know the characters that characterize the pittsburgh-who hunters in the series are in the state of Kansas. Those who played the game were probably looking forward to meeting Henry (andon Scott) and Sam (Nadja Peter); But before, the series chose to explore a little more the group from which the pair was running away. The apparent leader of the group, Kathleen (Melanie Lindsay), is controlling the operation of hunters in the area and looking for Henry and Sam. The new character, created for the series, seems to be a more frightening version of Eva-Assim like the game's character, Kathleen is also helpless by the death of a relative and shows hatred for Fedora. So far, we don't know exactly why Kathleen is so active in searching for Henry. The leader's perseverance to organize the group to find it seems much deeper than in the game. Just by this dialogue, it is possible to assume that the hunter's narrative will also be present in the next episodes change starts from a clear and constant intention to oaden the existing dramas in the game. After meeting Kathleen, we are taken back to Ellie and Joel. In parallel, we know that Henry and Sam are hidden somewhere, with the same intentions as the protagonists: to escape from that place.
In an attempt to reinforce the atmosphere of fear, creators insert the first date of pairs in a slightly more mysterious way.
First date
Instead of seeing Ellie and Joel end in the same building as Henry and Sam are hiding from hunters, the protagonists look for a safe place to sleep at night. Finding an empty house, they prepare to sleep-scene, even refers to the forest scene. If during the forest nap we noticed a careful Joel around the surroundings, this time the character ends up lowering the guard for Ellie's jokes. Given the context of the episode, it is easy to see that the moment of relaxation between the two is positioned in this way to anticipate a danger. As in previous episodes, producers get it right to ing a prior context to known characters. When Ellie wakes up, in the middle of the night, it is to warn Joel that they are being approached by Henry and Sam. For the game's audience, the others' intentions are obvious. However, as a person who played the game, I believe the atmosphere of violence and fear was present in the same way. But for those who did not have access to Naughty Dog products, the whole narrative involving Henry and Sam becomes an even greater mystery than it is. In addition to this scene, the few details Kathleen gives about searching for Henry contribute to the creation of the mystery, thanks to the cliffhanger of the end of the episode, will only be resolved in the future. The series, which will have 5 more episodes, is aired on Sundays, 23h (asília time), the closed channel HBO or the HBO MAX application.
